Google is a search engine that was created in 1998 and has soared in popularity ever since. As computers and access to the internet became more common in households everywhere a simpler way to navigate the web was necessary. The internet was still very new at this time and I am sure that many users had difficulties navigating the amount of websites that were being created. Google created a search engine that allowed people to instantly find what they were looking for. The site mathematically ranks a page’s popularity to supply the user with links that most closely relate to the key words the user searched. Google’s mathematical algorithm set it apart from other search engines. As media and technology have continued to develop Google has pursued many other mediums of easily navigable internet services. Google owns and operates Chrome, a web browser, YouTube, a site of professional and amateur videos, Gmail, an e-mail service, Google maps, which provides directions and images of locations, and many more. Google’s addition of more than search engine services was largely due to the fast-paced time period it was born in. After the development of personal computers technology changed at an increasing speed. In order to stay relevant Google had to compete with other companies by adding new features to its repertoire. Google has transformed itself into an internet powerhouse and people everywhere take advantage of its services.Google is available in over one hundred languages and is in use around the world. Everyone from college freshmen to researchers to eleven year old girls hoping to find out what happened to Justin Bieber use Google to quickly find the answers to their questions. Now when my friends ask me a question my almost automatic response is, “Google it!”
